I wanted to make this ring for a long time and finally I had some time for it :) I picked a bunch of small irregular pieces of amber and wrapped it with hammered sterling silver ring.

LIBELLULE - lapis lazuli and aquamarine

Libellule is a french word for "dragonfly". Thats funny, how "l-l-l-l" plays with "l-l" in words "lapis lazuli" :)

I bought these Thai Hill Tribe silver dragonflies specially to combine with lapis lazuli. I love this gemstone. Its deep blue color and sparkling inclusions hypnotise me! And of course, I did notice that brothers Salvatore have rings with lapis lazuli :)
I wire wrapped sterling silver hoops with lapis lazuli faceted rondelles and small pieces of aquamarine. Let me take you to a mysterious place, where twilight plays tricks with youe eyes and water smells like waterlillies.

It's been very busy month. I started my PhD studies, but I'm a bit dissapointed. I guess I need some time to think about it one more time ;) I also move to another apartment this month and dispite all the stress related with moving out/in, I'm happy. I will have big room with fireplace to arrange my studio :)

But for now, I want to invite you to my newly launched e-shop! We're still working on english version, but I couldn't wait longer :) What do you think?

The Moon and The Lapis Lazuli

I know it's weird, but from the last Spring when I think 'lapis lazuli' I see Salvatore brothers ;) I love new season so far, but I still think it was way more interesting to watch The Vampire Diaries episodes one by one in a row without one week breaks. Anyway, this post is not about TVD.

I had no exact idea for this necklace. At first I made moon pendant and decided to add a cubic zirconia to make it more 'light'. When I took out this piece from the kiln I thought it would look nice with faceted lapis lazuli briolettes. And here it is - Lapis Lazuli Moon Pendant. Not spelled yet, so you can choose what powers it should have. 'Couse we all know, lapis is an extraordinary stone, right?

12 hours in Prague

I love reading blogs about everyday life. It's like taking peek in somebody's house unnoticed :) Anyway, I follow Agnes' blog and really love her thoughts about life. This time I took her post to heart.

'I vastly prefer blogs that cater regular photos of the blogger -- mainly because so many blogs look alike, similar templates, similar gadgets, sometimes even similar thoughts, and being able to put a face to a blog makes it one-of-a-kind to me. I feel more familiar and connected.'

That's why I simply love her blog. I like the way she shows things she loves: her husband, cat, home, wardrobe and, of course, herself.

Last two weeks were all about time. I was working on polish/czechish project in Theater Wybrzeże and my life was organized by strict schedule. I could have some free time only after the premiere, but then I cought cold and spent three days in bed... And here I am - with a sore throat and running nose.

But happy I could see my beloved Prague again! It was only one night stay and 4 hours in the old city and it was worth every hour I spent in a bus to come here :) The atmosphere and every piece of architecture is breathtaking, I think I could spend there half of my life and it wouldn't be enough.

It was very hot summer full of adventures :) But here I am, back home and ready to start Autumn in my studio!

Happy to show you some photos from my latest trip to Berlin :) Unfortunately I didn't make to Etsy knitting party last Saturday, so I hope it weren't my only chance to meet Etsy admins 'live'.

What I love about Berlin is the living history. I could touch almost everything I've read in history books - The Berlin Wall, places associated with World War II, East Germany Republic etc.

Also I was impressed by Reichstag building. Wonderful view on a downtown and main governmental buildings. Did you know there are solar panels in the top of Reichstag? I was amazed!

Berlin is not only about XX and XXI centuries. Beautiful royal residences and breathtaking parks in Berlin and Potsdam makes you regret you haven't born few centuries ago :)

Anyway, eurotrip is over and I'm glad I'm back home :) Stay tuned for many intresting posts, fun news and new designs!

New and different

This was just incredibly awesome experience to work with one of my favorite artclay artist, Anna Fidecka. Last month I visited her in her studio in Warsaw to learn some basic artclay technics. It was fantastic 2 days, Anna turned out to be a very friendly and warm person. And this is me, working in Anna's studio on my first designs :)

Art clay is a pure silver in clay form. Completely dried and fired it retains its original shape leaving 99,9% pure silver (or copper/gold). I'm happy to show you my first artclay works. And of course: big 'thank you' to Anna Fidecka for showing me this amazing material!

...russian language and songs, fantastic people, friendly atmosphere, post-soviet architecture, magical landscapes and tasty food.

Last week I spent in Kaliningrad Oblast: Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad, Kurshskaya Kosa. I have no words to express my feelings about how deeply I miss all my new friends and how much I enjoyed this journey.

It's all about contrast - expensive cars to old Ladas, old babushkas selling parsley on the streets to much too high prices in regular shopping malls, not so friendly (very often!) service to superb friendly people you meet.

Already making plans to visit Russia again as soon as possible. It's like an addiction - can't stop thinking about it once you've tried.

My diploma work is finished! It's time for Summer now :)

It looks like my summer is going to be very busy. I'm starting new part time job this week, rearranging my Jewelry boutique next month, going to attend art clay workshops in the end of the month and planning trip to Russia and Netherlands in August!

Have a break

It've been a busy week. I try to finish my diploma work for next week, but there's still a lot of work to do. My life is totally by the watch now. I wake up in the morning, visit Etsy and other online sites and pack things for shipping, make custom orders which had to be done for yesterday, at 2pm I'm in a library for research and writing. Back home about 9pm, dinner, small talks with fiance and I'm deadly tired. So for goodnight I watch this new TV series "The Vampire Diaries". And I really enjoy it :)

Good plot, vampires don't sparkle and most of them are really handsome :) Also "Diaries" have great soundtrack. I discovered this piece in "You're Undead to Me" part. Love it!

How to calculate shipping fees?

Some sellers don't consider shipping price as one of the most important factors in business. But rule is simple - if your shipping price is to small, you pay by your own for shipping. And if this price is too big, it can discourage someone from buying in your shop!

How to calculate good shipping price?

First of all, calculate all shipping expenses:

~ cardboard box/envelope

~ bubble pack

~ post stamps

~ public transport tickets/fuel you use to get to the post

~ the time you spend on packing/in the post

Yes, many factors to consider. But you can cut down some costs. Here's what you can do:

~ buy boxes and envelopes in a wholesale. If you don't need all of them, you can buy bigger amount with other Etsy seller from your city. Just ask in your local groups and I think you'll find someone interested in joining your order!

~ look for bubble pack in a supermarket with building equipment, it's much cheaper than in regular stationer's;

~ if you live far away from any post office, ship items 2-3 times in a week. But don't forget to write about it in your shop policies (e.g. "I ship items on Mondays and Thursdays") and inform your buyer, when you plan to ship his purchase. Some of them are ready to pay more for quick delivery, so stay in touch with your costumers!

Also, don't forget to write in your shop policies, what kind of shipping you offer for regular price: priority mail, registered, etc.? Be ready to offer other ways of shipping for extra charge (some of sellers set up separate listings for tracked shipping or others, e.g. ingermaaike). This way your buyer have a wide selection of shipping ways and prices.

Last but not least - don't forget about shipping price "with another item". Calculate weight and size of your item, but remember - you ship this item with another, so this additional fee has to be smaller than main one! This encurages your buyer to buy more items per once.

Aldona, your shops are full of items made in different techniques (felted, knitted etc.) - which technique you like the best and why?

I can't say which technique I love the best, because it depends on my mood. Sometimes I can't stop felting and I do it day by day, sometimes I knit like a crazy. Very often I can't stop spinning even if it's late night already.

I love all handworks what I do: sewing, felting, knitting, spinning. I put all my love and good energy in my works. I believe that every thing you do, could bring good energy for person who will wear it. It is my credo - do all things only with love and this will return to you in some way.

Have you any "must do" plans for this year?

I have plenty of "must to do" plans :) First, I want to do many things and many changes in my summer house and garden. Also I need to finish some big projects for weddings - dresses for bride and bridesmaids. And of course I wish to do a lot of things in my Etsy shop. I really need a 48hour day!

What book have you read recently?

I love reading, but sometimes I have no time for this. Usually I try to read few pages before sleep. My favorite book which I had read a couple years ago is "Sinuhe the Egypt" wrote by Mika Waltari and now I'm reading his another book - "The Roman".

Aldona, what is the best about Lithuania, country where you come from?

I love everything in my country - wonderful nature, beautiful lakes and forests, fresh air. Sometimes I miss sun, but anyway, it is the best place for me. I grew up here, my family and all my friends are here. I love my garden and small wooden summer house near the Vilnius... Could I wish more in my life? :)

Come to the Dark Side

There is one The 69 Eyes song called "Gothic girl". I love the lyrics - they contains all stereotype patterns about goths :) Old ruins and cemeteries, laces and leather, adequate aura etc. Never assumed to take all this stuff seriously, but this type of style inspires me since I remember.

I was thinking about this session for a long time. A photographer I work with, Bartek, doesn't do fashion shots, but I really like the way he sees people. The model is Katarzyna and she did a fantastic job that cold autumn day :) no complaining about weather and being so natural in front of the camera.

Today I listed some of these jewelry pieces in my Etsy shop. Hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did making them :)

A weekend off

It was one of the most beautiful weekends, when you do a lot of things, but not related with your work and even have no time to think about anything else except thing you are doing at the moment ;) I hope you know, what I mean!

A couple of friends visited me and stayed for few days. We were drinking beer and vermouth drinks, watching B-class horror films, eating tons of popcorn, taking really long walks and talking, talking, talking.

I feel exhausted, but happy. These are some photos we took in the forest. It was too wet and too cold to make a fireplace, so we just immersed ourself in nature ;)

Being your own boss has many advantages, but also it's really hard to negotiate with yourself if you need a day off. So many work to do and day has only 24hours. Spring came and I even didn't notice that. Until last Thursday!

I went to a supply shop, which is situated not far from the sea (well, actually it's a Gdańsk Bay, but we all call it "sea" :) ) and I just couldn't resist taking a short walk. Water was very calm, not many people (I hate sunbathers) and gentle whispering of the sea. I was just sitting there and daydreaming.

My Etsy Friends - Lithuania Team

Etsy is not only a place to sell and buy things handmade. It's also a place to make friends and find a lot of information about crafting. People are setting up teams, 24/7 posting new messages on forums, giving advices about etsy shops or just chatting.

I'm a proud member of three etsy teams. Meet one of them - Etsy Lithuania Team! :) I met some of team members on the unofficial meeting in Vilnius last month, I even got presents! I was so thrilled to meet girls in person and to talk about etsy backstage :)

Aldona invited us to her apartment, where she has its workroom. She runs 2 shops on Etsy: aldonasuneviciene and aldy.

I had an opportunity to meet this sweet little angel, who is a "face" of silkstory etsy shop. And her mum as well :)

Egle, who runs Globusyte shop, made a fantastic bookmark for me.

I listed some new supplies in AgShop this week and a lot of sterling silver pieces are going to be listed next week too.

I use most of them in my work as well, so I can assure they're best quality! Here what can be made using my new sterling silver findings and gemstones.

These earrings were made with turquoise rondelles. I love a bit rough look of this stone and I decided to combine it with irregular texture sterling silver beads. These earrings also have been featured in latest Pakamera.pl newsletter.

I just love these acorn shaped earrings. They are made of round reconstructed amber (14mm!) and sterling silver bead caps (18mm diameter). Earrings are very light. To find more amber in AgShop visit section with amber.

I wanted to write about my Easter spent in Lithuania and feature on Etsy FP today, but this morning brought terrible news about plane crash in Russia and death of Polish president, First Lady, parliament members and army leaders. Deepest condolences to the entire Polish nation

Some of my friends have lost their friends in this terrible crash and I even can't find any words to express sorrow.

Do you check, who added you to favorites recently? I do it every day :) Etsy favorites is a perfect tool to find out, which item people like the most and to find so many interesting artists around the world. Also, I check other sellers favs very often.

How do I select my favs? Simple - I see something and think "woo, this is adorable/fantastic/interesting/ beautiful/etc. :) these are things I don't want to loose out of my sight. Some of them I use in my treasuries later or I post about them in my blog, some of them I consider to buy :)

My favs contains 13pages of items and 12 pages of shops and still growing. What is new there?

First of all - vaisto's corset! I adore this new piece - so robin hoodish and medieval spirit. And photos are fantastic. Another fav I would like to mention here are fantastic cufflinks made by TheFloatingMarket - stylish and a bit industrial. Last, but not least, are striped leg warmers with adorable silver buttons bt meroww. Grey is one of my favorite colors and photo of these is also great!

Among recently added shops is MaLaMiNaKaNo (that's difficult!) with artistic clothes. I found this shop through one treasury made by one of my tweetmates. Another wonderful shop, CasaDiAries, sells small things for home: decorations and coasters. In shanegorski shop you will find unique photos. I would mark all of them as my favs.

Express your style with a cufflinks

A cufflink is a decorative fastener worn by men or women to fasten the two sides of the cuff on a shirt or blouse. Cufflinks offen are "must wear" for special occasions. Also, they say, it's something every gentelman should have.

Can't imagine James Bond not wearing cuflinks, don't you? :)

Due to some new designs in my shop I made a research on Etsy and my favorite webpages with handmade items and found some fantastic cufflinks I would like to share with you. Some of them are classy, some are humorous and simply funny. The best thing about them is most of them are unisex style.

These vintage style cufflinks made by Bellamodaartist with baloon print reminds me Jules Verne "Five Weeks in a Balloon". Romantic Aquanetta's cufflinks are perfect for nowadays Romeo - you can put a photo of your Juliet inside to take a look on her every time you want.

I just love these fantastic steampunk cufflinks made by edmdesigns with watch movement elements. And another pair, made by crimsonking, would be a perfect gift for a card player or a fan of "Alice in Wonderland".

What about having some fun and not taking all this "gentelman style" seriously? Lego cufflinks made by agabag will be just perfect. You can choose different colors and sizes of lego bricks :) One more funny pair, cufflinks with pinup girls made by VenusFlytrapJewels.

My cufflinks are more classy - sterling silver combined with natural amber and silicon (not to be confused with Silicone!). These amber cuflinks reminds me my grandfather - he always wore fantastic oldstyle cufflinks to express his "a head of the family" status.

Remember Rita's first etsyversary? I will remember for a long time for sure :) it was my first giveaway, when I got lucky!

This wonderful handsculpted pendant arrived few days ago and made my day. It's gorgeous!

Rita, your shops are full of supplies and pieces made in different techniques - which one you like the best and why?

Every technique has it's place and use in my work. So I don't have the favorite one in general. But what I love more than anything else in the creating process is to learn and to try out something new. So I like the technique and material I'm trying out at any moment the most.

Imagine you found Aladin's lamp and it can fulfill three of your wishes. What would you wish?

Sorry, don't have such wishes. I love to live by the day or even better - by the moment and to enjoy it in full, even if it is a hard one. I could only wish the same for my 4 kids :)

Rita, what is the best about country you come from - Latvia?

I'd say the best of Latvia is our pretty wild and clean nature and people: many of us are artists with warm hearts.

Hunted treasuries

Yesterday I visited one of the biggest fairs in Poland - Amberif. Lots of people, hundreds of sellers, beautiful amber, gems and jewelry. Fantastic experience and so inspiring!

These are some of my treasuries "hunted" on fair. First of all - rutile quartz briolettes. I'm really proud of them - best quality and so beautiful inclusions.

Big labradorite briolettes also are gorgeaous. Nice effect of iridescent.

Green amethyst briolettes.

From Russia with Love

Few weeks ago a friend of mine brought me a keychain with lovely Matryoshka doll from Moscow :) I guess every tourist visiting Russia want to have one of these adorable creatures. Inspired by Russian Vogue I looked through recently listed handmade items on Etsy and Pakamera and found some gorgeous stuff!

A Matryoshka doll, also known as a Russian nested doll originally is a set of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside another. But it seems Matryoshka is changing its outfit and traveling around the world. You can pin her to your cardigan, wear as an earring or even take her to bed with you (as a pillow ;) ).

E.g. these beautiful sweet-faced art dolls made by zouzoudesign and Ravenhill could be not only a perfect gift for Russian doll collectors. It may be also a charm pined to a bag or a good companion at your workdesk.

Matryoshka doll prints on fabric to create unique T-shirt or wonderful cotton pillows (wengergirl's tattoo inspired design). But imagination has no limits. Matryoshka as a cat? Why not! Krize tells a black and white story about five little cat brothers. And yes, they were matryoshka dolls :)

Back to colors now and my favorite part of finds - jewelry! Earrings made by ola, tiny Matryoshkas hiding in colorful ribbons, follow rustic trends. Soft felted brooches made byAylaArt makes you smile! It's like an addiction - I would like to have all imaginable colors to mix :)

Inspired by Etsian friends and their flickr favorites I decided to share with you one of my favorite Facebook groups. It's "Lietuva senose fotografijose" - Lithuania in the old photos. It's a group, where you can post your family or your hometown old photos. The only rule is - photo must be old!

This group and its albums are great source of information. You can learn how your hometown looked like 50 years ago or in XIXth century or what people were wearing those days.

But the most inspiring for me are albums with portraits. Lot of them are anonymous. You don't know, who it was and where this photo was taken... But if you look into those people eyes you can imagine, who they were, what they were thinking about in that short moment.

Or what they dreamt about.

Love to participate in SWAPs. It so good to put businnes matters away for a minute and think about particular person - what she would like to get? What from my creations could make her smile?

Answers are not easy to find, that's for sure. But a whole thing is worth to challenge yourself! :)

This spring SWAP among forum Auksarankes.com was so fun and joyful! I got beautiful amethyst wrapped earrings from forum admin, Justina. Amethyst is one of my favorites gemtsones and I adore wrapped pieces, so this gift was a big something to me! Justina is a fantastic person, and also she runs this gorgeous jewelry shop. And here are my new earrings:

My SWAP partner was very challenging :) Astra said she loves Swarovski crystals, really long earrings and she wants green/olivine colors so bad this spring! It took me few days to come up with something. I chose sterling silver daisies, combined them with olivine Swarovski baroque pendants and tiny faceted peridot beads:

It was a busy day. I've been working on my new etsy shop for hours. But here it comes: www.AgShop.etsy.com :)

I run on-line jewelry boutique for more than two years now. This gave me priceless knowledge about different kinds of supplies. I know how important is to get best quality pieces for handcrafted jewellery. So I decided to share my experience with Etsians.

Ag is a latin chemical symbol for argentum - silver. AgShop offers sterling silver beads, findings and erawires, but also glass beads, gemstones and amber :)
